Max Payne Replay

Max Payne is still a great game to play even 23 years later. However, it was a lot shorter than I remember.  It barely took 5 hours to get through.  But this was after fixing the broken “adaptive difficulty” in the Steam version which reverts to the hardest mode after a few deaths.  I thought it felt more difficult than I remembered.  Once this was fixed I blew through the last act in no time.  Another thing that differed from what I remembered was that his shoot-dodge jumps were much lower and less epic than I expected.  But I guess they just ramped them up a lot in the sequels.  It felt like I was just sliding across the floor most of the time in this one.  I also understood more of the Norse mythology this time round like the death of Detective Balder kicking off Max going to RagnaRock.  Alfred Woden has one eye and is all-powerful.  Despite this and some mild early 2000s PC game jank, still one worth revisiting.
